This new territorial park, situated in the traditional territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in can be accessed from the Dempster Highway. It has been referred to as the Patagonia of the Northern Hemisphere and supports a huge range of flora and fauna found nowhere else in North America Located just south of Beringia, a huge swath of land the escaped the glaciers during the last ice age, the Tombstone Territorial Park area holds some of the most spectacular views in the Yukon.
Klondike River
Although this river is identified as Class 1, it takes your breath away with its beauty and clarity. Whether you put in at the Dempster Highway Bridge or Rock Creek, the end of your journey puts you out into the great Yukon River at Dawson. Trip times to Dawson vary from 4 to 7 hours, but may be longer if you are lured by grayling fishing and photo stops!
The Gold Fields Loop
Explore the famous Klondike Goldfields! Begin your adventure into the heart of Dawson’s mining district on either Bonanza or Hunker Creek Road. Along the way, stop and see an operational gold mine, Dredge #4, and Discovery Claim. You can pan for gold on your own at our free claim, or let the experts show you how it is done at several commercial sites. Don’t miss the spectacular view from King Solomon’s Dome. For the adventurous, hike or bike and camp the Ridge Road Heritage Trail into the gold fields (32km/19.9miles). Trail maps available at the Dawson Visitor’s Information Center. The gold fields are still alive with mining activity. Please be considerate and refrain from exploring private mining properties.
