Berton House is the boyhood home of author Pierre Berton which, thanks to his generous donation of $50,000, was acquired by the Yukon Arts Council in 1989. It is now a private retreat for Canadian writers under the
Berton House Writer's Retreat Program. The original house was built in 1901 and was bought by mining recorder Frank Berton in 1920 for $500. It was the family home of Frank and Laura Berton, their son Pierre and daughter Lucy until they left Dawson in 1932. The house has been fully renovated by the Klondike Visitors' Association at a cost of more than $100,000 and was re-dedicated in a colourful ceremony on August 14, 1996.
